Gut-Behrami extends an overall lead after the second downhill win at Val di Fassa

The two-time world champion defeated Petra Vlhova in a second event down the World Cup in two days to extend his lead in the overall standings.

In shape Lara Gut-Behrami she extended her lead in the overall stand of the World Cup alpine skiing with her second title downhill in two days on Saturday (February 27).

After its first downhill win on Friday (February 26) in Val di Fassa, Switzerland was caught up to speed up the slope in Italy again.

True to its creation, the two-time world champion delivered a brilliant run, 1.29 seconds faster than main rival Petra Vlhova, who lost the overall lead to Gut-Behrami on Friday.

The performance also means Gut-Behrami will move closer to the lead in the world cup stand downhill, held by the injured Sofia Goggia.

Corinne Suter improved her chances in the downhill positions with her run in Italy, +0.32 seconds slower than Gut-Behrami.

Breezy Johnson started the day’s stage with Suter in second place, but fell sharply in her run. She was able to walk away unaided.

The women continue the Super G race on Sunday.
