Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he will keep restaurants open amid the pandemic and slammed New York for banning an indoor dinner as horrific images show state bars full of people without eyebrows eating. drinking and dancing.

On Tuesday the governor defended restaurants at a press conference inside the Okeechobee Steakhouse on West Palm Beach, the oldest steak house in the state.

‘At a time when people in our service industries, particularly in restaurants, accommodation and hospitality, are being taken on their chin, especially in some other states that have been completely shut down, we just want to send the message – some may close. you down. Florida’s approach to treating the pandemic has been very different from New York, which closed food within Monday due to a surgeon in COVID-19 infections.

DeSantis said the majority of new COVID-19 cases come from home collections and cited a recent report from the New York government that found that 1.4 percent of new coronavirus cases were recovered to restaurants and bars.

‘We need to understand that most diseases occur in people’s homes, especially if you have people coming together, so closing a restaurant for food is interiors are going to get more people to do that in private homes at least, ‘DeSantis said.

‘We have your back if you are someone who is a waiter, or a chef, or if you are a family business – you are an important part of our state,’ said DeSantis.

‘You work on people who work hard to make a living. You have the right to do that. You are going to defend that right with the governor, ‘he said.

Restaurant waitress Theresa Hodgdon, a single mother of two, was shedding tears at the press conference and thanked the governor for allowing the steak restaurant to remain open.

The governor also noted that there are about 40 states with a higher number of COVID-19 infections and hospitals per capita than Florida.

On Wednesday Florida recorded more than 1,155,335 coronavirus cases and more than 20,200 resident deaths.

Florida has been steadily raising COVID-19 cases since mid-October, a few weeks ago the governor announced that the state was at Stage 3 of reopening that allowed restaurants and bars to operate at full capacity at end of September.

The state now reports an average of more than 9,000 cases per day. On Tuesday the state reported a favorable rate of 9.28 percent.

This week video footage of a DJ set and dance party at the Peach McSorley Inn in Fort Lauderdale showed dozens of people packed up close together, many of them seen without a mask dancing.
