Dutch boss Frank de Boer is in danger of fishing for Jurgen Klopp by announcing that Virgil van Dijk has Eight weeks left but says he is not putting any pressure on to play in a delayed European Championship
Dutch boss Frank de Boer has threatened Jurgen Klopp this week with a statement saying he understands that Virgil van Dijk is just eight weeks away from finishing his career.
The Dutch captain was taken off for the season in October after being crushed by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in a Merseyside derby and breaking his ACL as a result. .
But Van Dijk has emerged far ahead of the process with the recovery and returned to on-field training earlier in the year at Liverpool’s AXA training center.
Frank de Boer has scheduled a pass on Virgil van Dijk and said he is eight weeks out
Jurgen Klopp has been silent about the process of getting past his star defender
Klopp has stayed coy on his star defender and has assumed that Van Dijk will be sent off for as long as he needs to get back to perfect, but this week this De Boer has talked about the chances of the center back making a scene at the upcoming European Championships.
‘We know he has eight weeks left. I don’t know if that’s enough, ‘De Boer told a news conference, as reported by TeamTalk.
‘I’ve talked to him, he’s back on the field. Obstacles can always be there. A week or two of trouble could mean he can’t play games for Liverpool [this season].
‘Then I can imagine them saying: “Nice and nice, but you’re just aiming for next season”.
Van Dijk returned to outdoor training earlier in the year and appears to be ahead of schedule
The Dutchman has been working hard in the gym with Joe Gomez who is also out for the season
‘Ultimately, he must be feeling good about himself. I’m glad he’s on the right track.
‘Anything he can add to Liverpool and maybe us would be an advantage. I’m not counting on it right now, but if it did [make it], would be great for the selection.
‘We’ll see. I’m not putting any pressure on him. He has to do it himself and he has to have confidence in himself. The choice largely lies with him.
‘When the moment comes and we know how it works, [we will] agree with what he can do. Then I have to decide about it. ‘
It is reported that the 29-year-old is still appearing for the Netherlands at Euro this summer
He did not play from suffering a horrific knee injury against rival Everton last October
If De Boer were right with his eight – week frame for Van Dijk, this would mean the center’s technical return would be available for Liverpool ‘s final games of the season against Burnley and Crystal Palace.
Without the fitness of a previous game it seems almost impossible for the Reds to bring the Dutch back at such a late stage, although a summer of football at the Euro 2020 delay could be a more reasonable opportunity.
Holland suspended their rivalry against Ukraine on June 13, four weeks after the Van Dijk review window ended.
