Drew Brees is back at work but will not be put back into action by the New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees returned to New Orleans Saints practice for the first time Wednesday since suffering 11 broken ribs and a lung injury against the San Francisco 49ers last month.
The Saints quarterback landed on injured reserve after suffering the debacle on Nov. 15 and has missed the last four games.
He was sent off an injured reserve, opening a 21-day window for the team to push him to the active roster.
However, while Brees has indicated he would like to appear against Kansas City Chiefs 12-1 on Sunday, Saints coach Sean Payton will not rip the 41-year-old back.
Brees was injured in a game in November against the San Francisco 49ers
“We hadn’t managed anything just because we don’t have to,” Payton said Wednesday.
“He still has a way to go, and he’s someone we’re not going to rush back into the game.
“I think the essence of the injury is so great that you have to make sure it can work and feel confident.”
Brees recovery also requires throwing without limits and with a full range of motion.
Taysom Hill has posted a 3-1 record while he was a producer for Brees
Lack of urgency in tearing their quarterback back is also mitigated by Taysom Hill’s consistent performances.
The Saints 10-3 have posted a 3-1 record without Brees with Hill under center.
Hill has thrown for 834 yards in those four games and has eight runs (four passes, four runs). He has fallen six times, lost three, and taken 13 sacks in the same period.
His single loss last week to the Philadelphia Eagles gave the Green Bay Packers the biggest seed in the NFC, due to a win over the Saints earlier in the season.
