The consumer protection agency in the state of São Paulo in Brazil has fined Apple $ 2 million for not importing chargers inside iPhone 12 boxes, according to 9to5 Mac. Procon-SP claims that Apple is involved in “false advertising, selling a device without the charger and unfair terms.”
Apple announced in October that the iPhone 12 would not come and would come with chargers or earbuds in their boxes, citing environmental concerns. By introducing a USB-C cable to Lightning-only with iPhone 12 and other newer models, Apple said it would be able to reduce the raw materials for each iPhone it sells, as well as size reduce phone boxes. Critics suggested the change had more to do with allowing Apple to reduce shipping costs, while environmental experts said the impact on the environment would be minimal.
Procon said it asked Apple if the company would reduce the price of the iPhone 12 as there were no hackers in, and they received no response. The group also accused the company of not helping customers who had “problems with some duties” on their iPhones after updates. A spokesman for the group said Apple must “respect these laws and these institutions.”
The fine does not appear to have been particularly difficult for Apple, which had $ 111.4 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2021 (that total brings into 2020 holiday sales of iPhone 12 models).
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday from The edge.
