Even if David Ayer finally gets his original look Suicide squad, will not be enough to save Jared Leto on the Joker. After a massive social media campaign to let Zack Snyder have his version of Justice League has been a success, fans started a similar campaign for DC Ayer ‘s bad boy movie.
Ayer has been honest about how the studio has made several changes Suicide squad he didn’t agree with it, like adding elements of humor to make it more like the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Even if the fan campaign allows Ayer to complete his version of Suicide squad successful, it doesn’t seem to be enough to solve the most polarizing aspect of the film – Jared Leto’s version of a clown crime prince, the Joker. Adopting the character after Heath Ledger’s legendary performance in The Dark Knight it was never going to be easy, just the draft in Suicide squad let the ball down in a number of different ways. Beyond what listeners already know about the character, Leto’s Joker never seemed to have a motivational motivation or story. His relationship with Batman is completely absent from the film, focusing instead on his love affair with Harley.
Leto’s Joker had clearly been through a lot, what with his false teeth and a “damaged” head tattoo. But we never get that backing as an audience, forcing this Joker to come off as a weird, funny bully rather than any kind of big supervillain. Both Ledger and Joaquin found Phoenix’s Joker a place to breathe as characters and be terrifying antagonists. Suicide squad it was just too full to give that kind of attention to the Joker, which is not at all at the heart of the film’s plot. It is a disadvantage for both the actor and the character that Joker was introduced so differently with almost no context for why he is so different.
Leto’s Joker is expected to return in Zack Snyder Justice League, a physically altered creature from the last time we saw him inside Suicide squad. This is the first time Leto’s Joker comes face to face with Affleck’s Batman, which reveals part of the problem with the Suicide squad draft. The relationship between Batman and Joker is crucial to understanding both characters, and the fact that we’ve never seen them go off before Suicide squad it was a huge missed opportunity to explain and expand on such a radical reversal of the classic villain.
It is unclear whether there is a real chance for Ayer to complete his version of it Suicide squad. It’s a fan campaign that’s much thinner than the campaign made for Snyder Justice League cutting. But even if Ayer gets his vision for making the film a reality, his version of The Joker is unlikely to be released; there is just too much of what makes the character work.
