Arcadis finds US, Singapore, and Japan the most attractive places to build data centers Amsterdam Stock Exchange: ARCAD

Amsterdam, 1 March 2021 – Arcadis (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the leading global Design & Consultancy for natural and built assets, announced today the release of their 2021 Data Center Location Index, which lists the most favorable markets for zoning. After the United States, Singapore and Japan, Sweden and Norway took fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

The Arcadis Data Center Index 2021 encompassing 50 markets across six continents ranking the best places to build data centers in the world. The index is based on the performance of each market across eight key criteria: GDP per capita, covering building permits, electricity price, energy security, cybersecurity, domestic market size, number of broadband subscriptions mobile and average download speed. Using the above criteria, Arcadis data experts divided these into supply and demand criteria and then combined the two with equal weighting (50/50). The weights of the individual criteria were determined based on their assessment of the relative importance of each factor. Weights are set so that all features have a significant impact on the final index ranking. The final index value is the sum of weighting scores collected from publicly available sources.

The purpose of the index is to provide insights that can be used to guide a decision-making process as to where a new facility will be established. Choosing the best location is a crucial feature that will help determine how well a data center investment will perform, as well as ensure a stable and enduring commitment in a particular community. In addition, the report outlines a roadmap for the process of building a new data center and reports on the important current issues affecting the industry including climate change, effects of COVID-19, and growth of hyperscalers.

Arcadis engages with messengers across the entire data center construction process, delivering due diligence, project management, cost management, design, stakeholder engagement, and digital capabilities to help companies design, build , maximize the operation and maintenance of a new facility.

“Arcadis has the scale and global expertise to help accelerate the construction of data center infrastructure that will support our digital life. We help clients make the best placement choices and other decisions that lead to sustainable investment that will benefit all stakeholders including the community, ”he said. Peter Oosterveer, Head of Arcadis.

“Our lives are increasingly online, leading to an increase in data creation and consumption. This in turn requires us to build a growing and sustainable infrastructure. While each project will depend on a specific combination of factors, this index is a starting point to help clients think through the decision criteria that best influence the place. . ”Arsa Natalie Sauber, Director of Market Information Arcadis UK.
