The Ministry of Health updated that yesterday (Saturday) 5,030 new infections were diagnosed with the corona virus out of about 80,000 tests – a positive percentage of 6.3%. The relatively low number of infections is due to the low number of tests compared to recent days, and does not reflect a decrease in morbidity. In addition, the number of patients hospitalized in critical condition in hospitals has reached a new high and now stands at 993.
According to the Ministry of Health, 60 people died of corona over the weekend – but this number may be updated upwards. Another negative record set by Israel over the weekend is 1,710 hospitalized following Corona. The number of respirators is 231.

Meanwhile, at the Rambam Hospital in Haifa, a record was broken again in the number of corona patients hospitalized. This morning, there are 106 patients in the corona wards at the underground hospital.
The closure, which took effect at midnight between Thursday and Friday, was supposed to last two weeks, but senior Ministry of Health officials estimated that it would be extended in the face of Severe morbidity data. As part of the closure, the education system today is disabled except for special education and closed boarding schools. At the same time, the second dose vaccination campaign for vaccinators against Corona will begin today – and at 4:00 PM, the additional vaccine delivery from Pfizer will land, as part of the agreement that will make it possible to vaccinate the entire adult population in Israel until March.

From next Sunday, the hospitals will start vaccinating the person who received the first injection through the second dose. Also, the vaccination of teaching staff in hospitals will begin this week. According to data from the Ministry of Health, 1.8 million people have received the first shot so far, 70% of them aged 60 and over.
