A violent incident took place tonight (Saturday) in Holon between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv fans before the derby in Bloomfield. The Israel Police announced that following a brawl between fans identified with the two teams, they arrested four of the Yellows’ fans, on suspicion of assaulting a Hapoel fan, who was moderately injured. Police stressed that the investigation into the incident is at a very early stage and that the final details have not yet been clarified.

The police statement reads: “Tonight in Holon, the police arrested 4 suspects in a moderate attack on a man. According to the suspicion against the background of rivalry between fans of football teams, with the detainees being fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv and the man who was attacked by a Hapoel fan. However, it is important to note that the investigation at the beginning and the detainees are currently only part of those involved, when the possibility is examined that other Hapoel fans are also involved and it is not necessarily an attack of several fans against the same injured fan.

Tonight, the police opened an investigation upon receiving a report at Hotline 100 regarding suspicion of a brawl incident in Holon, near a building used by football team fans, when according to local medical sources, Assaf Harofeh, a man in his twenties, was moderately evacuated. “After the suspects, at the end of the interrogation, 4 suspects, about 20 years old, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the brawl. In accordance with the findings of the investigation and its needs, the police will consider bringing them to the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court tomorrow to extend their detention.”
