The 36th American Cup defender and opponent – New Zealand Emirates team and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli – were still locked up after the first two days of racing.

Just like Wednesday’s opening day, both teams enjoyed Friday’s victory, which will ensure that the competition for the oldest award in world sport remains well-balanced at 2-2.

Both outfits were out on a Thursday spent training and working on their race boats, and now they will be racing on consecutive days until a winner is decided.

In the first race of the day on Friday, as they did at the PRADA Challenge Cup Selection Series, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli showed the flexibility in the lighter conditions.

With a wind speed of around 9-10 knots, the Italians achieved a 37-second victory. The New Zealand Emirates team then responded strongly, with a 63-second victory for themselves in the fourth race.

This American Cup Game is a series of wins from the first to seven and lighter wind speeds are expected again Saturday.

With the city of Auckland moving back to COVID-19 Alert Level 1, all race courses will now be available for select organizers to choose from, compared to the limited number used first to try to prevent crowds from gathering on land.
